20 Years since NEVERMIND

How old do I feel today. 20 years since this music shook the world and spat it out. The message was the world is manufactured. That from birth, we are lured like fish by the material want as described by the cover photo.

Even then, the angst in the music made an immediate emotional contact. It was raw, powerful, and yes, disturbing. Little did we know that Kurt Cobain’s angst was related to a much darker, deeper depression that would later claim him.

Kurt’s death was nothing new. Depression has taken more then one life in its time. But that is not saying that this is acceptable. It is not.

Are you okay? A simple question, but an important one.

What is R U OK?Day?

Thursday 15 September, 2011

Thursday 15 September, 2011 is R U OK?Day. It’s a national day of action which aims to prevent suicide by encouraging Australians to connect with someone they care about and help stop little problems turning into big ones.

On that day we want everyone across the country, from all backgrounds and walks of life, to ask family, friends and colleagues: “Are you OK?”.

Staying connected with others is crucial to our general health and wellbeing. Feeling isolated or hopeless can contribute to depression and other mental illnesses, which can ultimately result in suicide. Regular, meaningful conversations can protect those we know and love.

It’s so simple. In the time it takes to have a coffee, you can start a conversation that could change a life.

It’s a great site. And a great day. Get involved all.

Don’t look at someone in trouble and say to yourself, oh… never mind.
